Vermont pumpkin harvest average despite weather

Halloween is safe this year in Vermont — at least if your holiday plans include jack-o’-lanterns.

Unlike shortages facing much of the Northeast, this year’s pumpkin crop in Vermont is average, according to state agriculture officials and several growers.

“Our pumpkin season was challenging, but it doesn’t seem as challenging as everybody else,” said Koi Boynton, a spokeswoman for the Vermont Department of Agriculture and Marketing. “It’s an average year. We don’t have the very low numbers that everybody has been seeing.”
